So I've come to the understanding that birthday luck skips a year. I only have two years of evidence to support my hypothesis, but that's good enough for me. Leave the science to my dad, right?! My 22nd birthday was a total coup. I had a pizza party in my huge vacant east village apartment. I made a 4 disk birthday mix that lasted the EXACT duration of the party. Afterwards we crashed a roof party that had bowls full of every kind of Little Debbie snack cake in existence. I also had my pick of two cute boys to go home with that night. It was great great great. 23 sucked ass. No one was in town. Peeps were having major drama I had to mediate. Anyway, per my logic, 24 was slated to be fantastic. So far, IT IS!
The festivities began with Erin's visit to NYC. This become a bi-monthly occurrence and I, for one, quite enjoy it. Please don't stop, Erin. Friday we went to Brooklyn Fish Camp and waited forever for a table. It was worth the wait I guess. I've tasted more delicious things before, but the waitstaff was really nice and the food was decent. Then we raced to Cattyshack to beat the cover -- which we achieved with 50% success (long story).
Saturday we brunched and movied. I wouldn't see Waitress if I were you. I mean, you can if you want. I just think you probably shouldn't. It won't improve your life in any immediate or profound way. Keri Russell is pretty cute. You will get sad through the whole thing when you see that director/actress who was killed by her plumber.
After the movie, we went to No. 1 Chinese for the first of 3 birthday celebrations. This was The Chain Birthday Dinner. As usual, all of The Chain wasn't able to attend b/c of some sad things and some happy things. I won't get into the sad things, but the happies was that Jamaal and Jess were in LA for some music video awards show for which Jamaal was a nominee! He didn't win, but he met some porn stars which is just as good. Congrats Jamaal!
Erin made us get another bottle of wine. BAD IDEA!!!!!1
After dinner, we went to MSG to see GEREVAIS!!!!! Honestly, I was really drunk and I don't much remember what he said. I do remember thinking it wasn't that funny. The real reason Gervais is funny is because of his fat, ugly face and crazy teeth and wonky facial expressions. As you can see from the image below, all of this was lost in the stand-up setting. Also we missed Bowie introducing him because the boys were wrong about there being an opener. THANKS GUYS!!1 Anyway, like Brooklyn Fish Camp and Waitress, I guess I'm glad I went, but, like, whatever.
Following Gervais was a trip to Ace Bar which is douchy and terrible, but it was ok because I was with my friends! Also they have Big Buck Hunter which is always fun -- especially when you're surrounded by yuppies whose faces you can imagine on the bucks right before you NAIL' EM WITH DA GUN.
Sunday Erin went home after a leisurely brunch. Then I took a long Sunday walk with Sam. For dinner we went to this totally awesome place in Red Hook that's straight out of the 90s. It's called Hope and Anchor.
It's like one of those 'fancy' diners with good wine and modified diner staples. For example, Sam and I shared a pork burger with apple chutney and a chicken sandwich with fig compote and blue cheese. YUM!
Coincidentally, my new boss at Allure and I share a birthday. Monday she bought me a piece of cake (chocolate layer), but then the freelancers bought us both a whole cake (chocolate with vanilla creme and cherries). So there was TONS of cake! Then I went to my birthday dinner at Alma and had even more cake (tres leches)! Anyway, it was really fun that everyone came out. Even Adam came all the way to Red Hook just to say he couldn't stay. We had to wait for a table on the roof so we played pool and made hats out of things to pass the time.
POOL!
HAT!
We finally sat down.
For my birthday present Daniel gave me a tongue kiss!!!
He also gave me a mix cd.
Look how dope my friends are! Totally tough!
After Sam dropped me off, Cody and I smoked a juicy joint, I listened to Willa Ford's 'I Wanna Be Bad' and then passed out while watching The Last Waltz which my brother sent to arrive on exactly my birthday. Basically, it was a perfect night. Thanks to everyone who came and to everyone who read this really boring, self-indulgent post. Stay tuned for a full report on the MEGA BLOW OUT portion of bday2k7, bday2k7 part 2!
OH! Also, Daniel LB sent me the best birthday mix ever. I don't want to insult other people who made me birthday mixes, but his is reeeeeeeaaallly good. Here are some people on it (feel free to weigh in and tell me I'm gay for liking them):
The National
Death Vessel
The Game
Monster Movie
